An initiative led by Central Atlanta Progress in partnership with the City of Atlanta. Atlanta Legacy Makers is a public commemoration of two Atlanta mayors, Ivan Allen Jr. and Maynard Jackson. Through this effort, we embrace the legacy that Atlantans—now and next—are charged to carry forward.

Creating the Art and the Archive

Atlanta Legacy Makers celebrates the legacy of Mayors Allen and Jackson and their willingness to unite a divided city. Their efforts defined Atlanta as the South’s beacon of progress. To honor them, Central Atlanta Progress and the City of Atlanta will introduce a new public art piece where their storylines converge: at Peachtree Street and Auburn Avenue in Downtown. This artwork will be inspired by a community engagement program series that will include free public educational events and creation of an oral history from Atlanta residents.

Meet the Public Art Finalists

The Atlanta Legacy Makers Curatorial Committee is proud to announce the 4 teams who are finalists for the public art commission to be installed at the intersection of Peachtree and Sweet Auburn.

These teams will continue to refine their submissions for the next few months and you have an opportunity to provide inspiration and feedback to them by using this tool. We look forward to sharing your input with the teams. Visit the blog for the official press release.
